Myrmex capability · AR2

Sensing, vision and physical intelligence.

Myrmex AR2 is a modular sensing-to-action system. It connects sensors, cameras and intelligent edge nodes to turn physical-world measurements into contextual awareness and, progressively, informed decisions and carefully controlled action.

Physical nodes within Myrmex

Independent nodes.
Explicit relationships.
Composable systems.

Within AR2, an ant is a deployable physical edge node with a defined role. It may host several sensors; nodes, sensors and actuators remain identifiable rather than being flattened into one opaque physical system. AR2 is not a separate colony, it is one capability family within Myrmex.

Specialised physical nodes

Give each node a clear role in sensing, vision, movement, positioning or equipment state so responsibilities stay understandable.

Provenance by design

Keep the origin, freshness and quality of observations visible as evidence moves from individual nodes into wider system state.

Collective intelligence

Connect complementary observations so the wider system can reveal patterns and context that no single node could provide alone.

Authorised control

Keep observation separate from authority to act: physical commands require explicit permission and independent safety commissioning.

Configuration model

Start with one node.
Grow with the purpose.

A field system may begin with environmental sensing. A payload may add vision and equipment state. A laboratory rig may connect controlled equipment. A mobile robot may add navigation and actuation. The physical configuration changes while the reusable AR2 relationships and interfaces remain.

Reference edge platform. Current development uses Arduino UNO Q. AR2 is designed around explicit device and telemetry interfaces so future edge hardware can be substituted without redefining the capability.

Personal Space reference configuration

One connected node.
A growing field of possibilities.

The Arduino UNO Q is today's reference edge platform, not a permanent dependency of AR2.

Environmental sensing (working prototype)

A physical BME688 measures temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and gas resistance. The AR2 console presents readings, historical trends, timestamps, freshness and quality.

Multispectral sensing (experimental)

The AS7341 acquires raw visible and near-infrared channel measurements locally. These are not calibrated material identification results; live Core/web transmission is not yet commissioned.

Scout (interface prototype)

A focused observation session can show selected modalities without dashboard clutter. Physical portable surveys, saved sessions and hardware control are still under development.

Motion, camera and autonomy (evolving)

Movement has experimental hardware evidence. Camera-based recognition, rock or plant identification, autonomous decisions and physical actuation remain development goals, not validated live features.

One capability, multiple contexts. AR2 can be configured for stationary environmental monitoring, portable exploration, experiment rigs and future mobile robotics. Physical control requires independent authorisation and safety commissioning.

Let’s talk

Working on something complex? I’d love to hear about it.

Especially if sensing, autonomy, physical AI or an awkward real-world system is involved.
